BULLS BOUNCE BACK, WIN 4-2
After four barn-burning offensive games between the Bulls and the Norfolk Tides, the pitchers struck back.
RHP Brian Sweeney (2-1) pitched six masterful innings allowing only two runs on six hits and the Bullpen chipped in three scoreless innings as the Bulls knocked off the Richmond Braves, 4-2 on Wednesday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Richmond struck first with a solo home run by Derrick Gibson in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Bulls responded with two runs in the third inning on back-to-back RBI-doubles by Paul Hoover and Joey Gathright. Richmond tied the game in the fifth inning, but the Bulls took the lead for good in the sixth on an RBI-double by Steve Cox. Hoover added an insurance run with a towering home run over the Blue Monster in left field, his second of the season.
LHP Sam McConnell (0-3) took the loss allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings of work. RHP Lee Gardner recorded his fourth save of the season with a perfect ninth.
The Bulls and Braves square off again on Thursday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Tickets are available at www.durhambulls.com or by phone at (919) 956-BULL.
