ROCK AGAINST CANCER SET FOR AUGUST 8TH

The 1st Annual Strike Out Childhood Cancer Night will be held at DBAP on Saturday, August 8th. Triangle nonprofit Rock Against Cancer is the presenting sponsor of this special night with the Durham Bulls in an effort to raise awareness of childhood cancer, the number 1 disease killer of children under 14 in the United States.
Rock Against Cancer (RAC) supports and empowers pediatric cancer patients by providing Music Therapy and innovative music programs. RAC currently has Music Therapy programs in eleven hospitals across the U.S., including two in the Triangle at Duke Children¹s and N.C. Children's Hospitals.
The 1st Annual Strike Out Childhood Cancer night will feature special tie dyed jerseys, a silent auction, kids activities, a post-game concert featuring The High and Mighties and of course, the Bulls traditional Saturday night fireworks show. Ticket packages include a terrace reserved seat and concert admission for $12 www.durhambulls.com . Tickets for the concert are just $5 and can be purchased with game tickets at the box office, at any RAC info booth during the game or at the concert.
The silent auction features great items for all family members and will close at the top of the 8th inning. The specially designed Bulls tie dyed jerseys worn during the night's game will be autographed and auctioned online along with other items at http://www.32auctions.com until August 15th. Featured items include: a week at a 4 bedroom beach house in Sunset Beach, NC; autographed sports memorabilia from various Major League Baseball teams, a JumpZone birthday party, test-prep courses from Kaplan and the Princeton Review and a 7-day stay at Divi Resorts in St. Maarten. All proceeds benefit music programs for kids with cancer.
There will be an information fair with organizations serving the childhood cancer community such as: St. Baldrick's, Ronald McDonald House, BounceBack Kids, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society & Strike 3 Foundation.
Have you ever wondered if you could help a cancer patient by being a bone marrow donor? There will also be representatives from the National Bone Marrow Registry's "Be the Match" program. This program encourages people 18-60 to sign up to become a part of the National Bone Marrow Registry. DNA is collected with only a cheek swab, no needles or blood involved! Will you 'Be the Match' for a child in need?
Kids are invited to participate in activities in Wool E. World. Music Therapist Tray Batson will perform 6:00p-6:45p. Elizabeth Fawcett, MT-BC at NC Children's Hospital will be leading children in a sing-along from 7:15p-7:45p. There will be face painting and arts and crafts from 6:30p until the end of the 2nd inning. The activities in this area are perfect for younger kids who have a hard time sitting through long innings!
Although raising awareness for a serious cause, the 1st Annual Strike Out Childhood Cancer Night should be a great time for the whole family.
We invite all baseball fans in the Triangle to come out and support a great team and a great cause! You can order tickets by calling 919-956-BULL. To learn more about Rock Against Cancer, please visit www.rockagainstcancer.org.
