RAYS CALL UP JOHNSON AND HERNANDEZ

The Tampa Bay Rays today announce Bulls' Co-MVP Dan Johnson and newly-signed catcher Michel Hernandez have been selected to Tampa Bay and Joel Guzman has been designated for assignment.
Johnson and Hernandez were selected because Rays catcher Shawn Riggans is expected to be sidelined at least three days with inflammation and a possible infection in his right knee and B.J. Upton strained his left quadricep muscle last night. To make room for the players, Joel Guzman was designated for assignment (i.e., taken off the 40-man roster). The Rays have three days to either trade, release or outright Guzman to Durham.
Montgomery catcher Craig Albernaz and outfielder Rashad Eldridge were assigned to Durham from Montgomery to take Hernandez and Johnson's place. Albernaz batted .340 with a home run and 9 RBI in 14 games with the Biscuits while Eldridge batted .290 with five home runs, 55 RBI and 24 stolen bases.
